Wha - !?
I’m a bloody Conservative! When the hell did that happen? It just struck me as I was browsing through the Tory website for like the tenth time today – I’m a Tory! Give me a ballot paper and I’ll tick their box. Hell, give me an innovative campaign like Boris Johnson’s was, and I’ll even give them money!

When on earth did that happen? At what point did I suddenly hang up my left wing boots and don the blue jersey? When did I start smoking a pipe and wearing tweed? When did I come to actually value rural communities?
I’m a Conservative. Well. I’m a liberal.
That’s it. That’s the real difference. I was a liberal when I was in sixth form. And I’m still a liberal now. All that has changed is that I’ve come to realise it is the Conservatives who are the real liberals, not the union loving, civil rights hating Labour party, or the inconsistent and laughable Liberal Democrats. But the Torys who really promote individual liberty. Sure speak to an actual Tory MP and they will be incredibly illiberal when it comes to social values – but thankfully they have enough sense to keep shut about it. And I won’t lie. It was Tony Blair’s presence that prevented me from noticing my true colours for so long. While I’ve never been a ‘pro-government man’ I certainly wasn’t a fan of the Tories during Blair’s time if office. He was so far removed from his backbenchers that it never even occurred to me that his party was completely and utterly not what I believed in. Now that he has gone (and broken my heart by defecting to the most illiberal of Christian sects) I have been forced, for the first time, to really ask myself whose side I’m really on.
And so here I am - a true blue.
But still a Green.
